Do you have an existing health condition?

If you have an underlying health condition, it is likely that PKV providers might charge you a surcharge, depending on the exact underlying health condition or even reject coverage all together. Examples of underlying health conditions include asthma, high BMI, Hashimoto’s disease, medicine allergies, diabetes, passed kidney stones, elevated uric acid, migraine, psoriasis, undergone psychological or psychiatric treatment. Many PKV providers will make you undergo a health check before they accept you as a member. The surcharge can be anywhere between 5 and 30% depending on the condition. GKV providers don’t impose similar restrictions.
If you have an existing health condition and are interested in getting PKV cover, we will recommend that you work with a licensed insurance intermediary. They can clarify whether you can still be insured in PKV. They can also ask for anonymous quotes for you from PKV providers. Doing so ensures that if one PKV provider rejects you as a member, you still have the possibility of going with another PKV provider.
